Attachment
Therapy

Therapist Nancy Willinger, PsyD, LMFT

For nearly 30 years, I’ve helped clients understand their attachment patterns to build healthier relationships, friendships, and patterns at work.

Do you find yourself repeating the same patterns?

Do closeness and commitment feel difficult, even when you want connection?

Are things rockier for you than others?

Attachment patterns develop early in life and often shape how we relate to others as adults. You may find yourself choosing partners who recreate familiar dynamics or feeling pulled between wanting closeness and needing distance.

These patterns are not flaws. They are adaptations that once helped you cope. Therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness so they can begin to change.

My Attachment Therapy Helps Clients With:

  • Relationship patterns

  • Difficulty committing

  • Fear of closeness

  • Trust struggles

  • Emotional highs + lows

  • Dealing with conflict and communication

  • Trouble opening up

Patterns feel deeply ingrained, but aren’t permanent.

But, patterns are learned
‍ …
so they can be deprogrammed

How My Attachment Therapy Works

Our work begins with understanding your attachment patterns and the experiences that shaped them. Awareness is the first step toward meaningful change.

In therapy we discover how your early relationships influenced your expectations of connection, trust, and safety. From there we begin to shift the beliefs, behaviors, and introduce new experiences that keep those patterns repeating.

You’ll start practicing new ways of thinking, responding, and connecting.

Modalities I Use

  • Helps identify how early attachment experiences influence adult relationships and builds the capacity for secure, stable connection.

  • Explores the deeper emotional patterns and early experiences that continue to shape relationship choices.

  • Helps challenge beliefs about yourself and relationships that reinforce unhealthy patterns.

  • Build awareness of emotional reactions so you can pause, reflect, and choose a different response rather than repeating automatic patterns.

Create Fulfilling Relationships

With therapy, you begin to recognize patterns and respond differently.

After Attachment Therapy, My Clients Report:

  • Choosing healthier partners

  • Having an easier time at work

  • Greater emotional stability

  • Less drama

  • Trusting themselves

  • Feeling secure alone or together

  • More comfort in closeness

As attachment patterns shift, lift gets easier and more stable.

About Nancy Willinger, PsyD, LMFT

I bring lived relationship experience into this work. I have been married for 26 years and understand the realities and complexities of long term relationships.

My work focuses on helping people understand the emotional patterns that shape their relationships. For more than three decades I have helped clients uncover their attachment styles and develop deeper self awareness.

In therapy I aim to create conversations that are open, thoughtful, and direct. Clients often describe me as approachable and easy to talk to. I believe insight and self compassion can exist alongside honesty about what is not working.

Originally from Chicago, I moved to New York City at 21 to work in theater before eventually transitioning into psychology. Later I moved to Los Angeles and built my therapy practice. Outside of therapy I enjoy hiking around Los Angeles, playing pickleball, singing, going to the theater, and spending time with my husband and our adult twin children.

Availability: I work with clients in person in Studio City and via Telehealth across California.
