Couples + Marriage Therapy
Therapist Nancy Willinger, PsyD, LMFT
Trained by Esther Perel,
I help to reconnect relationships, rebuild intimacy, and repair communication even after years of disconnect.
Do conversations with your partner turn into arguments or silence?
Many couples arrive in therapy feeling discouraged. Others feel unheard, misunderstood, or emotionally alone even while living together.
The good news is patterns can change once they understand their root causes.
Couples Come To Me When They Experience
Loss of intimacy
Communication breakdowns
Infidelity
Negative interactions
Constant tension
As these patterns continue, they ingrain and couples begin to question the future of the relationship. It’s more common than you think, and can be reversed.
Patterns change once couples
understand the root cause.
What Couples Therapy With Me Is Like
In therapy we slow down the interaction patterns between you and your partner. We don’t focus on who’s right or the story that’s closest to the truth. That’s not important.
What we concentrate on is the relationship and what the relationship needs to function better.
We will explore the emotional patterns each partner brings to the relationship and learn new ways to communicate, respond, and reconnect. The goal is not just reducing conflict. It is deeper. We create a relationship built on respect, understanding, and partnership.
Modalities I Use
-
Helps couples understand how they interact and where patterns of conflict develop. It focuses on accountability, honesty, and building healthier ways of relating.
-
Developed by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt, this approach helps couples understand how childhood experiences influence adult relationships and why certain conflicts repeat.
-
A research based approach that strengthens communication, increases emotional connection, and helps couples rebuild trust and intimacy.
Healthy relationships are not about avoiding conflict. They’re about learning how to repair, reconnect, and understand each other more deeply.
Rediscover Your Connection
When couples communicate differently, the relationship shifts in meaningful ways.

About Nancy Willinger, PsyD, LMFT
I’ve been married for 26 years and understand the realities of long term relationships, including the ups and downs that every couple experiences.
My work with couples is grounded in both professional training and real life relationship experience. I have extensive training in multiple couples therapy approaches and have spent decades helping partners rebuild connection and trust.
In sessions, I focus on the health of the relationship rather than deciding who’s right. Clients often describe me as balanced, open minded, and direct. If I see something that’s not working between partners, I will say so in a clear and supportive way. This work can be challenging, but there is often space for humor and relief along the way.
Originally from Chicago, I moved to New York City at 21 to work in theater before eventually transitioning into psychology. Later I moved to Los Angeles where I built my therapy practice. Outside of work I enjoy hiking throughout Los Angeles, Singingl, going to the theater, and spending time with my husband and our adult twin children.
Availability: I work with clients in person in Studio City and via Telehealth across California.
